If I had 15 minutes to pack up what meant most to me, I would head right for my desk and take the things my kids have made for me over the years. One of my favorites is the keepsake Mothers Day planter gift my son made me when he was little.
No, he didn’t make this one.
He made the one below.
See the little picture he drew of us holding hands on one side? I think the other side is me sitting on a throne with a crown on the other:) He’s 17 now and off to college this summer..do you think he still thinks I’m a queen? Uuhhh…probably not.
But you should have seen his smile when he saw I used his planter for this post:)
Just like any other mom out there, I cherish these types of gifts for Mothers Day..or any holiday for that matter.
Today, I’m sharing a Mothers Day gift idea that’s easy to make for any age. Supervise the little ones and give them as much free rein or paint as they want. Bigger kids…well, they might follow along with the Mothers Day planter gift tutorial a little closer.
Here’s the items you’ll need to make a Mothers Day planter gift like mine:
- Terra cotta planter
- Acrylic craft paint
- Chalkboard paint
- Painters tape
- A cut out circle or label to trace onto the pot
- Paint brushes
- Chalk to write “Mom”
Start by painting your terra cotta pot.
Next, trace your label shape onto your pot. Paint the chalkboard paint onto your label.
Below is how I created the simple little flowers. Add a dot of paint for the center in each flower.
What I really like about this planter is it can be used in several ways. Use chalk and change the name on the label for other holidays. I used it HERE for a guest post I did as an Easter decoration.
Handmade gifts are meaningful and personal. What mom wouldn’t love a little planter like this to cherish? Use my tutorial as a template to make a Mothers Day planter gift or help a little one make something special. It’s fun, inexpensive and the entire project can be done in less than an hour!
