Yesterday, I mentioned I could use some help wrapping a few gifts that need to be mailed. My sweet husband said, “I’d help, but you know I can’t wrap”. With a smile I replied “Honey, what perfect timing you have, my post tomorrow is for you. I’ve written how to wrap a gift in easy steps. I’m certain you can follow along.”
How to wrap a gift in easy steps
Place the gift box front side down. Cut the width of your wrapping paper wide enough to overlap the edges. Trim the paper at the ends of the box shorter than the height of the box. For example, if your box is 2 inches deep, you’d trim your paper so the ends section is one and a quarter inches longer than the box length on each end.
Fold the side edges under slightly and crease the paper. Tape one side to the box. Next, line up any pattern and tape the other side on top of the first.
Fold the ends of the paper in like the picture below. Do this for both sides. Run your fingers along the edge for good crisp edges.
Fold the top down and secure with a piece of tape. Add a small fold (optional) on the bottom flap. Tape the bottom flap over the top.
Secure each end with tape as needed. Don’t worry about the tape showing, your ribbon will cover it.
How to tie a department store quality bow in simple steps
Figure out how much ribbon you’ll need first by placing the ribbon around the box length and width and then add enough extra ribbon for a good-sized bow and bow tails before cutting! To tie a bow you’ll start with your gift box face down. Loop the ribbon around the back of your gift like the picture below. Bring it back around to the front and tie a knot. One will be enough.
Fold each ribbon tail, making a loop, like the picture below. Gather the two ends, one in each hand. Tie another knot with each looped piece.
Arrange your bow and fluff where needed. You won’t need to pull it too tight if you’re using wire edged ribbon. Trim the bow tails like the picture below.
It’s that easy! You’re present is beautifully wrapped. The box edges are crisp and the tape is hidden under your ribbon.
Who doesn’t love to receive a beautifully wrapped present neatly tied with a big generous bow?
With a little practice wrapping a gift like the department stores is easy and the simplest of gifts become extra special with a beautiful presentation.
