Was it a great weekend? Our weather here was fantastic! We fit in a wonderful trip down to Sanibel Island and some beach time here at home.
….Yes, I’m sending Happy Memorial Day wishes out a day late. Let’s say due to newbie blogger technical difficulties. I could have just skipped the post but, given I am a Navy Wife I feel compelled to post :-).
Memorial Day is usually a day of gatherings, barbecues and fun in the sun. It is also an emotional day for many as well as a time to stop and reflect. We all know this dedicated day is meant to thank fallen soldiers who sacrificed for us, our country and our freedom with their lives. Not only in the past centuries or decades but today as well.
No matter what your political views I hope you are able to be thankful to the men and women who’ve given their lives for us. Not just today but throughout the year as you drop your kids off to school, attend the church of your choice, fill your tanks with gas and read the Sunday paper. Even with all of our trials and tribulations we face as a country, the fact stands that we have freedom to enjoy many aspects of life that others do not. We have a lot to be thankful for.
In addition to putting out the flag a few times a year, one small gesture of gratitude I’ve learned from my husband is to thank a soldier. It doesn’t matter what branch of service they are from, if they are in uniform or even if we know them. Simply walk up to them and say “Thank you for your service”. If you don’t already, I’d like to suggest that you try it. Do you know a family who has lost a loved one? Let them know you appreciate their sacrifice. I can tell you first hand it means a lot to the military member and their families.
On that note ~ from my family to yours. If you are a military member, spouse or are family to a military member past or present I’d like to thank you for your service and sacrifice. We proudly fly our flag in your honor.
