Tis the season for gathering with friends and family and lots of photographs. I don’t know about you, but the first thing I do when I get to see myself in a group photo is pick me apart. I almost find a reason to not like it. I’m not smiling, I look heavy, I blinked..etc. I’ve got top 6 posing tips for women and one important mindset to share with you today on holiday photos. First things first, have fun. Don’t worry about taking the perfect photo, let your beautiful self and personality shine through. That’s real beauty. For those of us with curly hair, love your curls, embrace them, and then have some fun with the new Dove Hair Love Your Curls Emoji Keyboard while your sharing your favorite photos of the season.
Taking good photos is so much easier when you know how to pose for photos. We all look better in photos when we look natural and comfortable.
Natural for me is my favorite hairstyle.
Which is no style at all…
I have coastal hair. I can blow dry or style it straight and in no time at all there are curls, popping out all over.
Just because I let my hair do what it wants to do doesn’t mean I don’t want it, or me to look good in photos though. I see you shaking your head in agreement.
So I’m sharing these top posing tips for women that will help you take beautiful photos.
Just to prove we can all do this, I’m putting myself and DH’s amateur photography skills out there and sharing these tips on how to pose for pictures, with curly, unruly coastal hair and lots of wind on the bay.
Ready for a few posing tips?
Tip #1. Avoid standing straight to the camera. It will make you look bigger than you are. Stand where your body has angles. Turn your feet and shoulders slightly away.
Tip #2. Stand tall and straight, push your head forward chin out to get rid of the double chin;)
Tip #3. Look natural, don’t have your legs and arms stiff and straight. Bend the knee facing the camera and put your weight on the back leg and sway your hip back a little. Push your torso and hips back to slim them.
Tip #4. Creating space between your legs and arms in poses makes you look thinner:)
Tip #5. Solids look better than patterns in photographs.
Tip #6. Say Happy instead of cheese. You’ll get a more natural smile.
Again, embrace the beautiful person that you are and #LoveYourCurls. Your photos will shine and so will you:) While your having fun with your new found posing skills this holiday season why not have some fun with the Dove Emoji for curly hair too.
Download the Dove Love Your Curls Emojis in the App Store and Google Play Store to share how you #LoveYourCurls!

To make sharing even more fun this season Dove Hair will also be partnering with Twitter so each time women and girls share a #LoveYourCurls moment, a custom Dove Curly Emoji will appear in the tweet. How fun is that?

Hi Wendi! Thanks for these great tips. There’s so much picture-taking and posing during the holidays, this post could not have come at a better time. ๐
Wendi says
So glad you found my tips useful and you are so right! The holidays are full of photos and photo taking opportunities, we might as well look the best we can in them:)

Gorgeous pictures and great tips- my favorite is being comfortable being you and embracing that! Stopping by as a guest cohost for Motivation Monday- thanks for linking up!
Wendi says
Hi Kelsey, Thanks so much for your visit…and the compliments:) You’re so right, being yourself allows the beautiful you shine through in a photo.
Marie at The Interior Frugalista says
Thanks so much for the posing tips Wendi! You have no idea how much I need these tips because this old gal is NOT photogenic. This holiday season when everyone is saying cheese, I’m going to be a rebel and shout “happy”.
You photograph beautifully Wendi and those ginger locks are to die for. What I’d do to have a curl in this poker straight hair. DH did a great job behind the camera.
Wendi says
Hi Marie & thanks! We ALL need those tips girlfriend! None of that is natural to us. You go ahead and shout HAPPY too! Be a rebel..LOL Thanks so much on the curls, it took me a while to learn how to live with them when we moved here, now we get a long just fine:)
DancingMooney says
I’ve never considered myself to be very photogenic, but you are right, we can’t pick ourselves apart! Good posture is key to a nice photo as well, I agree… and you have gorgeous (costal) hair! Mine is thick and wavy… at it’s best when it’s layered, and can do what it wants… love that! ๐
xoxo

You are so right and it’s hard to not pick ourselves apart and yet all of us have so much more beauty than what a photo captures! Putting my photos out there was so hard for this post:) I think by nature we all want to shrink back instead of standing tall for photos:) I’m going to keep these tips in mind for this season. I love curly wavy natural hair, especially when it does what it wants to! I know yours is gorgeous! Thanks so much for your visit!

Terrific tips, Wendi. You look gorgeous daahling ๐ as always.
Wendi says
Thanks so much Therese! You always take great pictures yourself ๐ See you soon!

love the pictures and your curls Wendi!!!
I hate to have my picture taken. I guess if I lost a little more weight, I’d feel a little more comfortable. But, that being said, we really should love who we are, right?
great tips!
thanks!

Thank you Gail. This is my favorite hairstyle and it’s the easiest too. You have such a good point, we should love ourselves for who we are. Hopefully these poses will help. Anyone can take a good photo, or a not as good one. The key is confidence..and knowing when to push the hip back and chin out;) Then we can have fun sharing the photos..these emojis are so fun! Thanks for your visit!

Hi Wendi,
I love your curls and poses, and for sure need to incorporate them into any photos I am going to be in. Love the idea of looking natural!! I have super fine hair and all it does in Florida is frizz uncontrollably without any curls!! I usually just put it up with a clip to let me neck breathe. We are heading down this week to Siesta Key to help my mom during and after her surgery and I hear it’s is really hot & humid down there. We have had a reprieve up here in Michigan, with the 40’s & 50’s temps, when it usually is very snowy 20’s & 30″ temps this time of year. I still need to cover my hydrangeas with pine needles for the winter today, cuz it will be too late when we are back after helping mom out.
All The Best!!
Sherrie

Hi Sherrie! Fl brought my slightly wavy hair to full blown curls. I love it, it took some time to learn how to work it but now it’s great, and I loved the emoji I picked out to match my color & style hair:) So glad you liked my pose tips…it was a fun post. Have fun in Siesta Key, the weather is perfect here right now. We’ve been able to keep our windows open and have a lovely breeze off the water!
Patty says
First off let me say I love your natural curls, perfect for Florida life. Your tips for posing when having your picture taken are very good, I will have to remember them when that dreaded time comes, I try to avoid picture taking. I like all your poses, but I think the one with wind blowing your hair to one side is my favorite. Your boat is a beauty and makes a great background for your pictures, along with the water and the palm trees, oh (big sigh) lucky you.
Wendi says
Hi Patty and thank you:) I love it when I just let my hair do it’s own thing. Its so much easier. These tips are so good for all of us, I needed them too. Just think one, two, three…Turn a little, weight on back foot, chin out. Thats what I was doing at the time so I wouldn’t mess up the photos! ..btw- yes, we love the boat and where we live! Thanks so much for your visit!

Love your tips! Thanks, I needed these!

Hi Debbie.. We all do! I know a few women who just shine in photos, now I know why. They simply know what to do. Now we can all shine:) So happy you can use these tips!
kim says
Great tips.
Did anyone ever tell you that you look like Reba McEntire, the singer? You sure resemble her. I hope you take that as a compliment, because it is.
Wendi says
Thank you so much Kim:) You know it’s funny because, yes, I’ve been told that a lot and my husband keeps saying he doesn’t see it! I do take that as a compliment too, thank you!
Mary-the boondocks blog says
Wendi your hair is gorgeous. Perfect coastal hair. The tips are really helpful, especially the one about hiding the double chin. We don’t know what we are endowed with till we look at a picture lol. You look like you’re really enjoying yourself out there with the wind in your hair and your celebrity style poses. ๐ Have a great day!
Wendi says
Thank so much Mary:) As much as I cringe sharing pictures of myself, I have to admit it was fun. I needed these tips as much as anyone else. So glad they’ll be usefull for others as well…and yes, that double chin thing can ruin a good photo!
Serena @ Thrift Diving says
OOh, I love that shot from the back–your hair is so pretty! I love your posing tips. I find that my best pose (for taking a selfie) is from the camera up high, towards natural light. Works every time! ๐ And I can’t wait to take a ride on that boat! ๐
Wendi says
Thanks so much for the selfie tip! I’ve yet to feel comfortable taking selfies ๐ Thanks on the unruly head of curls too. Yup, thats what I get here in the humidity. I love the time I save, it’s so no fuss..but you already know that about your own super curly locks! –yes, we have to get you on the boat!
