Find joy in your journey is my new phrase for 2016. One of my favorite New Year activities is taking time to myself to reflect back on the past year and think about the New Year that lies ahead. Every New Year has been different. Some years we’ve left behind a spectaular year, others have been full of challenges. I picked the phrase find joy in your journey as my theme to grow in 2016.
How did joy become my special word and then my phrase of the year?
Have you ever experienced the coincidence of a person, activity or whatever reappearing until you realize there’s a reason? Take the word joy for instance, this holiday season I noticed the word joy everywhere, I mean everywhere, the stores, online, I even made a project using the word joy for my Nautical Sailboat Christmas Wreath.
The message was clear.
To me, the wonderful thing about growing older is how my outlook on what’s important and where things fall on the scale of priorities continue to shift in a good way. It was clear that it’s time for me to focus on finding joy in my own journey.
There’s joy in time spent with my kids and grandson. There’s Joy in laying on the beach at night with DH, watching for shooting stars and making a wish. There’s Joy in walking alone in the morning and watching a gaggle of birds, great blue herons, ibis and seagulls cover the roof of a house in our neighborhood.
Everyday events.
Simple and almost always available.

If I focus more on finding joy in life, there won’t be room to dwell so much on things that don’t bring happiness into my day. Items like a challenging stretch of time that will eventually work itself out, negative self talk that has no value, or dwelling on things that are unimportant in the big picture become so much less of an issue.
I can also be a little creative with my phrase
Excercise will bring me joy… When I excersize consistently, its good for the mind and the spirit, not to mention the blogger butt that has crept up with time:) I know I can find lots of other creative uses for my phrase if I just sit and thinks about it a while.

Hi, Wendi! The minute I saw your free printable, I immediately clicked over to your blog. The word I chose for 2016 is “Happiness”…which I’m quickly already learning pretty much has the same meaning as “Joy” has. I will be posting a lot on this word and it’s meaning in the next year at my blog. I have a feeling you will be doing the same. I’m excited to see what we each have to say about these words. I love how you added in your phrase that joy is a journey! It’s so very true! Each day we can choose to embark on that journey to find pure joy(happiness) in even the simplest things! I’ll be following your posts and I hope you will feel drawn to do the same with my blog!! 🙂

Hi Ann… Isn’t it funny how certain words stand out with special meaning at different times in our lives? You were right, I initially had a word and then the phrase came to me and for me this year it was more powerful and had action associated with it. Happy New Year and wishing you joy in your journey!

awwww, great post Wendi!
I searched for a word or phrase, and the one I am choosing to encourage myself this year is success!
Success: the accomplishment of an aim or purpose.
Success: the attainment of popularity or profit.
Success: a person or thing that achieves desired aims or attains prosperity.
I want this to be the most successful year yet for me and my biz. There will be challenges, goals, and hopefully successes!
wishing you Joy in your Journey!

You know Wendi I was thinking yesterday that I didn’t want to make the usual new year things, like lose weight even though I still have a few more pounds to lose, exercise more, yuck not for me. Finally I decided the best thing for me is to be happy with what I do each day and to not beat myself up because I didn’t accomplish everything I planned for that day and if I don’t do a cotton picking thing it is ok nothing to feel guilty about.
I love your word Joy so on my off days that I don’t finish what I set out to do or on days I do nothing I will find Joy in it. Thanks Wendi
Wendi says
Patty… You’re SO welcome! I’m so happy my phrase has meaning for you too. It’s so easy to forget to find happiness or beat ourselves up with negative self talk over things that just aren’ that important. I hope you print the printable and place somewhere to remind you each day is a gift:) Wishing you lots of happiness in 2016!

I really needed to read this today. Thanks so much for reminding me that the darkness eventually gives way to the light and that this too shall pass.
Wendi says
Hi Peg… I understand completely how a challenging time can seem to last forever. You’re right, it will pass. In the meantime, there are so many daily blessings to be thankful for. Like lots of people I too struggle with paying attention to them, especially during a challenging time. Sometimes it helps to have a gentle reminder. I’m so glad that my post brought meaning to you. Thank you so much for your note and best wishes for happiness in 2016!
