When you have a limited amount of space you learn little secrets over time to conserve space and stay organized. One rule that has worked really well for me is not to have duplicates of anything. Along that same line of thought is to find as many items that can do more than one job as possible and pick one only. My DIY etched glass coffee station canisters do exactly that.
…and yes, we still use the old fashioned drip coffee pot:)
These etched glass coffee station canisters are store and serve which saves me valuable space. Pretty enough to pull out for company like the New Years Day brunch we hosted, and durable enough to pop right back onto the pantry shelf until we need them again.
Let me show you an easy way to etch glass and make your own set of coffee station canisters. I use affiliate links to help you find the products I used:)
Etched Glass Coffee Station Canisters
I found my glass canisters at Walmart in 3 sizes (these would also work well too) and made the word stencils using my Silhouette Cameo. This was the first time I tried using cheapo contact type paper from the dollar store for stencil material. It works great and I loved the price. The only downside was that it was so thin it was hard to weed the voided part of the stencils out.
Wipe the surface with rubbing alcohol before attaching the adhesive stencil to clean and prep the surface for the etching creme. The stencil worked best when I bent just the bottom of the backing paper and started attaching the stencil at the bottom of the design.
Delicate sections were easy to adjust with little scissors.
Follow the directions on the etching creme. It’s easy! I couldn’t find a link to the brand I used, so here are a few brands that are economical too.
After 15 minutes, wash with soap and water and take off the stencil. That’s it, you’ll have a super cute set of etched glass coffee station canisters!
Our friends loved them.
Of course I love the store and serve functionality of these etched glass coffee station canisters.
Heck, I love anything that looks cute that saves space and keeps my supplies organized!

I love etched glass! and no better way to do it than with contact paper! ๐
I did ruin a place in my sink by rinsing some etching cream off. I won’t make that mistake again.
your coffee canisters are cute and I love the wording you used.
gail
Wendi says
Thanks Gail! Picking out the wording was the best part:) I’m so sorry you ruined your sink! The directions on my package said stainless steel was OK, but may surfaces were not. I think I’ll add that note in my post too. just to remind people to read the label!
Therese says
I can practically smell your fresh brewed coffee across the bay Wendi! Love you practical and pretty coffee station. And PS how about I finally break open my silhouette from its box and give it a try? You’re invited.
See you soon my friend.
Wendi says
Therese…SO funny! Break that baby out girlfriend! Or…come over and we’ll do it together. Seriously, you won’t believe how much fun they are!
Patty says
What a great project to put on my to do list. It looks easy enough for even me haha. I think I could actually smell your coffee.
Wendi says
Hi Patty! That’s funny. This really is easy to do and any adhesive stencils will work. I hope you make a set for yourself!

Wendi says
Hi Malia and Thank you. We are always challenged for storage and space….and I want my storage to be pretty. That’s no small feat in a small kitchen! Thanks for your visit!

Wendi says
Hi Julie.. Thank you! It’s a fun way to be organized and still have some style:)
Meegan says
Great idea and project, Wendi. So impressive. I love that you have the FREE silhouette file. You are so generous.
Happy New Year.
Wendi says
Hi Meegan! Thanks so much, I like the set too. The sayings were the most fun to come up with:) The flimsy contact paper…not so much but, the price was right! Thanks for your visit and Happy New Year!
Jan Bates says
My daughter in law buys a glass casserole dish for wedding presents. She etches their last name on the side. When they take a dish to a church social, it is easily identified.
Wendi says
Hi Jan, I LOVE that idea and I’m sure the recipients do too. That is such a special, unique and useful gift. Thanks for sharing, you’ve made me want to pull out a plain glass dish and etch one for my family:)
TwoPlusCute says
I need a silhouette but the whole process is so easy and you did a great job at explaining it. January is a great time to organize away some clutter as we put away the Christmas decorations. ๐
Wendi says
You would LOVE a Silhouette! I thought about getting one for the longest time before I finally made the plunge. It does everything but make my morning coffee! LOL
TwoPlusCute says
Hmmm, I will have to persuade hubby to get me one. Darnit, opportunity lost when he asked me what I wanted for Christmas.
Time to plan ahead for my birthday maybe. ๐
Wendi says
You should definately plan on it! The Silhouette opens up an entire new creative world:)
Angie @ Postcards from the Ridge says
These are really cute, Wendi. I’ve been wanting to try etching cream. It such a neat way to personalize things. Thanks for the tutorial. Definitely pinning this!
Wendi says
Thanks so much Angie! I wanted to try etching cream too…for the longet time and was too happy to try this project:) Happy New Year!
Marie from The Interior Frugalista says
I LOVE this idea and especially love your silhouette stencil (once again Santa did not bring me one of those machines). Pinning this to share and refer back to should I take the plunge and buy the silhouette for myself.
Wendi says
Girlfriend…DO IT! I’m sure Santa meant to bring you one and it probably fell off his sleigh in route! LOL This is a fun and crazy easy project to do. Thanks for pinning it!
Peg Robey says
I’d love to try this myself.I already use the same canisters for coffee/sugar/creamer/candy etc. They make great storage but definitely need a little decorating to spice them up.Thanks so much for this great idea.
Wendi says
Hi Peg, SO happy my little project inspired you to beautify your storage. I love practical and like you I stored and used the same canisters. I’m enjoying these and it’s been fun using them with the funny sayings that greet me in the morning!
Walking on Sunshine Recipes says

Wendi says
Thanks so much Lois! I’m always struggling to balance practical, useful and pretty in our small space kitchen. I’m so happy that these canisters are all 3! Thanks so much for your vist and sweet comment!
Christina in FL says
Oh Wendi, these are GREAT! I love the etching and would love the Silhouette cut file. My Cameo is getting a workout! I, too, love the shelf liner from Dollar General. ๐
Thanks bunches!
Wendi says
Hi Christina! You’ll have to share your project when you finish it. Enjoy the cut file. I’m planning on giving my Silhouete a workout in 2016 and using it a whole lot more for projects. Yikes, there’s so much to learn!
Serena @ Thrift Diving says
These are cute, Wendi! I’ve been wanting to etch some glass. I’ve got an old wooden window I found on the side of the round and thought it would be cute the etch the panes. Just haven’t figured out what to etch it with. I’d like to try something to help me get organized. ๐ Love this project.
Wendi says
Thanks and you should try it, You’ll LOVE etching glass! Great find too my friend on the old window, they are so expensive. That would be fabulous for an etched glass project!
