Stained Top Painted Bottom Furniture Makeover Tutorial

I have a stained top painted bottom furniture makeover tutorial with you guys today. Whew,  that’s a mouthful to say! I gave these two thrift store nightstands an entirely new look with this easy two-toned makeover. I chose to stain the top of these nightstands and paint the bases a custom gray color to compliment the new rustic modern headboard I’d just made.

Giving my inexpensive nightstands a new look with paint was an easy upgrade to make this room look coordinated and inviting. Here’s a photo of our guest room at the North House Lodge before I made over my nightstands and added the headboard. I built my DIY Rustic Headboard Out Of Shiplap the same week.

I love good quality furniture. These two pieces were $15 each. They are solid, the drawers worked well and I knew they’d last a long time. I couldn’t pass up the deal, but I had to find a way to improve their appearance!

It’s easy to make two completely different furniture pieces look coordinated when they get the same finish. I believe it makes a room look well thought out without being matchy-matchy. A stained top painted bottom furniture makeover was the perfect solution for these two dissimilar nightstands.

I’m picky when it comes to the quality of my work and decor. I want a finish that looks like it came from a furniture store or an upscale boutique. That’s why I use the best tools. This is my set-up to paint. I keep a Large Paint Shelter and a Super Finish Max Paint Sprayer , both by HomeRight, at the North House and at home in Florida for all of my DIY painting projects.

Look how awesome this room is now! I absolutely love the stained top painted base look for my nightstands.

The grey in the bases along with the stained tops compliment the headboard and the room’s rustic feel. The pieces look coordinated without being too similar.
